Lake Aberdeen Recreation Area – Aberdeen, WA

Posted by on Aug 28, 2014 in Explore Grays Harbor, Local Living | 0 comments

Explore Grays Harbor - Lake Aberdeen

One of our goals this summer was to Explore Grays Harbor and explore, see & do as much locally as we could!  My plan is to share with you what we have seen and done so that you can decide if it’s somewhere you and your family wants to enjoy in the future.

Lake Aberdeen Recreation Area is located off of Lake Aberdeen Road in Central Park area.  It is a city owned park area, which means there are no fees to enjoy it!

OUR VIEWS ON LAKE ABERDEEN:

Lake Aberdeen

The Lake - This is obviously the highlight of this area.  There is something absolutely magical about swimming in a lake in the summer.  It brings back childhood memories of camp and in our world of swimming pools and splash parks feels like a throw back to the days of swimming holes.  The lake is nice and big.  There is a well-kept dock area that creates a wonderful shallow end for non-swimmers and a deeper end.  I love that we can bring pool floats, rafts and other fun items to enjoy the lake a little further out from the docks.  On the other side of the lake there is another dock perfect for fishing as well.

Lake Aberdeen PlaygroundPlayground - The play area in this park is not large and far from traditional.  But I think it’s pretty cool and my kids feel like it’s an obstacle course of sorts and love to climb their way around all the structures.

Grassy Area – There aren’t really huge grassy areas in this park as the big pull is the lake, but there are some decent sized grassy spots you can sit near the lake to stake out a little picnic spot.

Bathrooms – Bathrooms at this park are porta-potties.  The last couple times we have been there was no toilet paper, so it may be something good to have in the car, just in case.  They are also located across the parking lot, so kids & drivers alike need to be careful.

Parking – Quite a bit of parking here and close to the lake.  There are also several spots that are right next to the covered areas, making it easy to unload, etc.

Lake Aberdeen Picnic AreasPavilion/Covering/Picnic Tables –  There are 5-6 of these small pavilions/coverings at various spots around the park & lake.  There are only a couple that are right next to the lake.  There are a couple a little further out that have charcoal grills you can use.  One is even tucked away in a nice little corner that is perfect for a family gathering or party.

Lake Aberdeen BeachMisc Stuff – Next to the lake is a perfect little beach and some huge stones perfect for sitting & watching the kids play.  And just down the road is a hatchery- we’ve stopped there before to learn about the cycle of the fish, see the fish in the tanks and one day we were lucky enough to help feed the fish!

Make sure to keep tabs on our Local Living section for all the best local deals & events!
